Kinship Carers

Next meeting 6 October 2010

Kinship care is an arrangement where a child who cannot be cared for by their parents goes to live with a relative (grandparents, aunts and uncles) or a family friend.

Taking care of a child can be challenging both physically and emotionally.  Becoming a kinship carer can have a significant impact on your finances. You may need to work fewer hours or even give up a job. You may need to move house, so you have more room.  It can also have a big impact on your relationships and your social life.

Our group offers kinship carers a place to come to meet and talk with others in the same situation as well as providing information and practical support.  We can advocate on your behalf, put you in touch with services which can help you and provide you with details of financial help which you may be entitled to.

Kinship Carers Meetings are held on the first Wednesday in every month from 1pm-3pm in Portland Road:

  • 12 October 2010 - Focusing on relaxation

  • 16 November 2010 - Focusing on ways to obtain financial support
