How it's used

Comes in herbal form (looks like rough dried herbs), as a resin (looks like chunks of sandstone or liquorice). or as a concentrated dark oil.  Resin, oil and herbal can be smoked with tobacco in a cannabis cigarette (joint, spliff, dooby).  Herbal is regularly smoked without tobacco.  Cannabis in any form can be smoked in pipes, buckets and bongs.  Non smokers can eat cannabis in yoghurt and brownies as well as other food products however, the effect from digesting cannabis is different to smoking and the onset of symptoms takes considerably longer.

 

Possible Symptoms

Produces relaxation, talkativeness, sense of wellbeing, lack of inhibitions, increased appetite (the munchies), disorientated behaviour and uncontrollable giggling.  Paranoia and mood swings.

 

Some things to look for

May appear intoxicated without smelling of alcohol.  Large cigarette papers, loose tobacco, numerous lighters, red eyes and small pupils, homemade filters (torn cigarette boxes), clingfilm apckages, bongs (plastic/glass bottles or cnas with straw inserted).  Distinctive aromatic and either sickly sweet or bitter smell.  Small burn marks on clothes (bomber marks).  Regularly hidden in socks or sock drawer, or game/cd/dvd cases.

 

Dangers

Impairs coordination and judgement.  Can affect short term memory.  Increased risk of lung problems i.e. bronchitis.  Increased risk of mental health problem including paranoia, depression, anxiety, schizophrenia and bi-polar.

 

Legislation

Cannabis is a Class B drug

Possession carries the penalty of up to 5 years in prison and/or an unlimited fine

Supply carries a penalty of up to 14 years in prison and/or an unlimited fine
